Greece to Invest Over Eur 1.5 Billion in Ukraine
Greece plans to invest over EUR 1.5 billion in Ukraine in the near future. This figure was inveigled at a joint press conference of Greek Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Evripidis Stylianidis and Deputy Industry Minister of Ukraine Viktor Baranchuk in Kiev on June 8. Seventy-eight Greek companies are currently operating in Ukraine and their number is growing.
Stylianidis also said that the Greece-based International Energetic and Technical Company is planning to build four power stations in Odessa region, and has already signed a relevant agreement with the Ukrainian government. The company intends to invest EUR 1.1 billion in the construction of the stations.
Greek companies also plan to invest EUR 600 million in construction, telecommunications and other areas.
Ukraine also welcomed a number of initiatives put forth by Greek companies. In particular it supported a project for the reconstruction of a road around the Black Sea, going through Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, Russia, Turkey and Georgia. The project will be financed through funds of these countries, the European Union and International Organizations.
Euripides Stylianidis said that Greece had allocated EUR 830.500 out of planned EUR 2.5 million to the international Chernobyl Shelter Fund. The rest of the funds will be set aside in the near future.
